Blogging Basics

Does the idea of starting a blog overwhelm you? I understand that the idea can be a little daunting at first – after all, you’re putting yourself and your ideas out there for the world to see and committing to do that on a consistent basis. It’s kind of like beginning a new relationship because you have to be willing to be a little vulnerable and open yourself up. Don’t worry, though, it’s not as scary as you’re making it seem. Creating unique content is really important, especially now, for building rapport with your customers and providing them value. Here are some tips about blogging the help you get started:

Be Yourself

In your business and your blogging it’s important to remain true to yourself. Don’t be afraid to express your voice and write about topics that are meaningful to you and your business. After all, it’s easier to write from your own perspective than to try to write another person’s and it will promote authenticity.

Speak With Confidence and Authority

Write about topics that you are knowledgeable about, so that your following sees you as an authority. If you’re not an expert on a given topic, don’t pretend to be. Make sure to do your research in areas where you are rusty, so that you can share relevant information. It’s okay not to have all the answers. If you’d like insight from your community and opinions from others on a topic, consider opening the comments up to allow others to share what they’ve done in a certain situation. Not only will you likely gain some valuable insight, you’ll be getting your community involved.

Be Clear and Concise

Think about the audience that you’re writing for and write simply and clearly to communicate your ideas to them. Go back to the basics and think about the 5 W’s that you learned in school: who, what, when, where and why. Add in “how” if it’s relevant. No need to write a novel every week, just write enough to get your audience intrigued and informed.

Paint a Picture

You know the old adage, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” We are visual creatures, hence why Pinterest and Instagram have become so popular. Make sure to include photos with your content that pertain to the topic you’re writing about. Photos are a great way to capture people’s attention on social media and keep your audience engaged.

Hopefully these methods will help you overcome the fear of writing. Whatever your approach, the most important thing about blogging is to be consistent. Do you have any tips or tricks that have helped you in your blogging? Please share below!
